El Gobierno confirma una nueva subida del salario mínimo en 2027 para compensar la subida del IPC

The Spanish government has confirmed an upcoming increase to the minimum wage in 2027 to offset inflationary pressures. Despite unions' demands for an additional 2026 boost, the Ministry of Labour has ruled out a semi-annual revaluation amid concerns over a loss of purchasing power. However, the government plans to initiate the new wage hike soon, following approval from an expert committee and presentation to social agents in the upcoming dialogue.

The minister acknowledged the workforce's declining purchasing power due to inflation and emphasized the need to move forward with wage increases, particularly as inflation reached a peak of 4.3% in August. The Ministry of Labour highlighted that nearly 2.5 million workers in Spain are affected by this upcoming adjustment. Both the UGT and CCOO unions have called for immediate social dialogue to address the impact of inflation on wages, with UGT demanding a revision of the 3.1% increase in the SMI for 2026, citing Article 27 of the Labor Statute.

They also urged the organization of a new meeting with employers to establish a new framework for wage recommendations in the upcoming AENC agreement, which should ensure wage increases consolidate the recovery of purchasing power and reduce wage disparities across sectors.
