Ebonyi: Umahi’s son, Gov’s brother-in-law sworn in as LG Chairmen

Osborne Umahi, the son of David Umahi, Minister of Works, and Chidi Nwode, brother-in-law to Governor Francis Nwifuru, were sworn in as Local Government Chairmen in Ebonyi State. Umahi took office as the Chairman of Ohaozara LGA, while Nwode, the younger brother of Governor Nwifuru's wife, was appointed as the Ikwo LGA chairman.

During the swearing-in, Governor Nwifuru addressed all 13 newly inaugurated chairmen, cautioning them not to allow the opposition to gain ground in their areas. He emphasized that "charity begins at home" and advised them to strive for the APC's 100 percent success in the 2027 elections. The governor also instructed the vice chairmen to cooperate with their respective chairmen and avoid any signs of rivalry.

He likened their positions to "spare tyres inside the car boot," emphasizing that they should remain available and supportive when needed.

Nwifuru shared a personal anecdote about his deputy, a former council chairman, who was unaware of her future role as deputy governor. The re-elected Chairman of Afikpo LGA, Chief Timothy Nwachi, thanked Governor Nwifuru and party stakeholders for the opportunity to serve the people. Nwachi pledged to justify the trust placed in them and assured that the APC would secure a landslide victory in the 2027 elections.
