2027: Show no mercy to opposition parties – Ebonyi gov orders LG chairmen

Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has instructed newly appointed local government chairmen to treat opposition parties with extreme severity in the lead-up to the 2027 national elections. Addressing the recently sworn-in chairmen at a ceremony in Abakaliki, Nwifuru emphasized the importance of effective governance and meeting people's expectations.

He warned that he would not hesitate to act against any chairman who falls short of the mark, asserting that their performance would be closely scrutinized. Nwifuru also encouraged the chairmen to bolster the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in their respective local governments. He threatened to remove any chairman who fails to live up to the administration's expectations, especially if he secures a second term in office.

The governor's directive has heightened focus on the role of the recently sworn-in local government chairmen in both the administration of local governments and the political landscape ahead of the upcoming elections.
