CityU probes orientation camp misconduct

The City University of Hong Kong (CityU) announced it will investigate misconduct that allegedly took place during its orientation camp. This comes after a video clip emerged online showing a male participant topless, carrying a female student clad only in a bra, which purportedly occurred during one of the camp's activities.

In a formal statement, CityU expressed serious concern over the mishandling of the orientation camp organized by an affiliate of the students' union. The university highlighted "serious mismanagement and inappropriate behaviour" by certain individuals involved. They also noted the distress caused to participating students.

To address the situation, CityU has established a Student Discipline Panel to investigate the incident promptly. They are in contact with the organizers and collecting statements from participants. Depending on the gravity of the matter, disciplinary action will be taken in line with the university's policies. The institution emphasized its zero-tolerance stance towards improper conduct and stressed that all students must uphold discipline and respect for their peers during orientation and other campus activities.

CityU also reminded student organizations running orientation camps to adhere to university guidelines and complete necessary training. The university reiterated that they will not condone any behavior that could harm their reputation. They encouraged students facing issues during orientation activities to seek assistance.
