CityU probes orientation camp misconduct

City University of Hong Kong announced on Wednesday that it will take disciplinary action following reports of improper behaviour during its orientation camp. The university responded to a circulating video clip that allegedly showed a topless male holding a female wearing only a bra. The incident reportedly occurred during one of the orientation activities.

In a statement, the university expressed concern over the orientation camp organized by an affiliate of the students' union, describing it as involving "serious mismanagement and inappropriate behaviour" by certain individuals. The university emphasized its deep concern about the unnecessary disturbance experienced by participating students.

A Student Discipline Panel was established promptly to investigate the matter. Meetings with the organizers are being scheduled, and information is being gathered from participants. Depending on the severity of the incident, disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with university procedures. The university stated that it has zero tolerance for any form of improper conduct and that all students are required to maintain good discipline and respect their peers during orientation and campus activities.

Student organizations hosting orientation camps must comply with university guidelines and complete training, according to the university. The university strongly condemned any behavior that could damage its reputation. It also urged students experiencing difficulties during orientation activities to seek assistance.
