BP appoints chairman to replace ousted predecessor

British oil company BP has appointed Ian Tyler as its permanent chairman, replacing Albert Manifold who was removed from his position earlier this year amid internal turmoil and accusations of governance issues. Tyler was appointed interim chair on May 26, the same day the company announced Manifold's removal, citing "serious concerns" over management, oversight, and conduct at BP, which Manifold vehemently denied.

Meg O'Neill took over as chief executive following Murray Auchincloss's resignation in early April. The company disclosed Tyler's appointment as BP's chairman following an extensive search involving both internal and external candidates in a recent statement. In April, BP faced shareholder opposition at its annual meeting, with investors voting against a proposal to reduce the company's climate reporting obligations.
