Apple Maps changes Lake Ontario to Lake America after Trump order

Apple's digital mapping service has altered the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America, according to an order issued by US President Donald Trump. This alteration is confined to users in the United States, while Canadian users will still view the lake as Lake Ontario. The BBC has reached out to Apple for a response. This action aligns with Trump's executive order to rename the lake following the collapse of trade talks between Canada and the US.

Washington has imposed a 50% tariff on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods as a result of the failed negotiations. Google has also made a similar change for its US-based users, leading to criticism on social media. Canada has retaliated by announcing it will impose dollar-for-dollar counter-tariffs. Prime Minister Mark Carney's office has walked away from the trade negotiations, citing Washington's demands as unacceptable.

Carney has criticized the US approach, stating that discussions can only resume once the US demonstrates seriousness.
