Apple Maps changes Lake Ontario to Lake America after Trump order

Apple Maps has changed the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America for US-based users in response to an executive order from US President Donald Trump. The alteration is part of a trade dispute between the US and Canada, with Washington imposing new tariffs on Canadian goods. Meanwhile, Canadian users will still see the lake listed as Lake Ontario.

The BBC has reached out to Apple for a statement on the matter. This action follows Trump's decision to rename the lake after trade talks between the two nations broke down, triggering a 50% tariff on $20 billion worth of Canadian products. Google had previously made a similar change for its US users, causing criticism on social media.

Canada has retaliated by announcing it will impose equal tariffs on US goods. Prime Minister Mark Carney's office had already dropped out of the trade negotiations, citing Washington's demands as unreasonable. Carney has also criticized the US approach, stating that discussions can only resume once Washington demonstrates seriousness.
