Africa World Airlines resumes Accra – Abidjan direct flights

Africa World Airlines (AWA) has reintroduced direct flights between Accra and Abidjan, reconnecting Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire after a nearly four-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The inaugural service launched on August 31, 2026, with a flight duration of about one hour. The route will operate four times weekly – Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays – providing a direct link between two major West African economic centers.

The relaunch ceremony took place at the Accra International Airport, attended by Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State and Founder and Board Chairman of AWA, along with a delegation from Asogli State, Deputy Minister for Transport and MP for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, Ghanaian diplomats, aviation authorities, and government officials from Côte d’Ivoire.

In his remarks, Togbe Afede XIV emphasized that the return of the air link was crucial for enhancing ties among African nations and highlighted AWA's dedication to facilitating travel, trade, and cultural exchanges across the continent.

The resumption of the Accra – Abidjan route is anticipated to stimulate business and tourism between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, while also enabling travelers to choose an additional direct flight option. For AWA, reviving this route is part of a larger strategy to extend its network across African destinations and reinforce its position in West African air travel. The airline aims to bolster connectivity throughout the region through this expanded service.
