Acer unveiled a gaming handheld that converts into a tiny laptop

Acer introduced Project DualPlay Mini, a unique gaming handheld that transforms into a small laptop. The concept, shown at IFA 2026, combines an 8-inch display and gaming controls with a mechanism allowing the device to switch to a physical keyboard. Acer positions it as both a portable gaming system and a Windows PC, though no specs or release date have been announced.

The design is innovative, with controls for slower-paced games and a keyboard optimized for fast-paced titles like FPS and MOBA. However, handling productivity tasks could be challenging due to the small keyboard. The prototype runs on an Intel processor, possibly an Intel Arc G3 or a regular Panther Lake model. Cooling is managed by two fans, including an Acer Predator AeroBlade metal fan.

Project DualPlay Mini is a proof of concept, with no release date or retail confirmation, but it represents an ambitious step in handheld gaming PCs, potentially allowing users to carry one device that serves multiple purposes.
