Acer Shows Off a Transformer-ish Concept for a Windows Gaming Handheld
If it’s going to do double duty as a computer, it might as well have a keyboard, right?
Acer has unveiled a concept for a Windows gaming handheld that could transform the way we use these devices. Known as Project DualPlay Mini, this handheld resembles a Transformer, able to shift from a clamshell laptop to a handheld form factor with just a flip of its 8-inch screen. The speakers are located on either side of the display, while the grips are situated on the back of the speakers, allowing it to become a traditional handheld when closed.
Although the user would still need to connect a mouse for full functionality, the built-in keyboard addresses one of the most awkward design issues with current handhelds. The concept also supports connection to external monitors and other peripherals, similar to other Windows gaming handhelds. While Lenovo's Legion Go series offers a more multipurpose design with a built-in kickstand, Acer's Project DualPlay Mini takes the idea a step further.
The device is powered by the same Intel G3 chips as Acer's recently announced Predator Atlas 8, which is set to launch later this month for an undetermined price. Additionally, Acer has recently unveiled the Predator Atlas 7, a smaller, lighter (and presumably cheaper) 7-inch handheld, expected to ship around October or later in 2026.
