5,183 schools selected for Digital Square programme in Keralam

The State government of Kerala has selected 5,183 primary schools for the Digital Square initiative, part of its 100-day programme, according to Minister for General Education N. Samsudheen. Digital Square is a project implemented by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) to promote the use of digital technology in primary education.

The list of selected schools has been published by KITE. In the initial phase, schools willing to participate were taken into consideration. The highest number of selected schools is in Malappuram with 814, followed by Ernakulam (475), Palakkad (466), and Kannur (463). KITE will provide software packages for the computers in participating schools during the first week of September.

Training will be provided to teachers in charge of Digital Square regarding the programme activities. The Minister emphasized that these activities should benefit all students. KITE has prepared a free software platform for students to engage in these activities, fostering learning through play, creativity, self-learning, and digital literacy.

This platform is accessible to differently-abled students, including those who are visually impaired. All primary schools will be included in the Digital Square program this year, according to the Minister.
