2027: Hunger, insecurity won’t stop Nigerians from re-electing Tinubu – Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has expressed optimism that Nigerians will re-elect President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election despite ongoing issues of hunger and insecurity. During a media briefing in Abuja, Wike argued that voters in Nigeria are heavily dependent on political leaders for support and thus their voting decisions are not entirely independent.

He acknowledged that hunger and insecurity would continue to be issues in any Nigerian election, noting that these concerns have been raised in previous elections as well. "There is no election in Nigeria where the issue of hunger and insecurity won't come up," Wike stated. According to him, factors such as family, community, local government, and ward level political dependence heavily influence voting decisions.

Wike emphasized that many Nigerians rely on political leaders for food and other forms of assistance, which sets them apart from voters in countries where individuals are more self-reliant in political choices.
