Zanetor pledges to turn scientific research into jobs, industrial growth

Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Ghana's Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, has pledged to transform scientific research into jobs and spur industrial growth in the country. She aims to ensure that scientific research transitions from academia to practical solutions tackling Ghana's critical developmental needs. Dr Agyeman-Rawlings emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, private sector, civil society, communities, and universities to unlock Ghana's scientific and technological capabilities.

She stated that science, technology, and innovation hold the key to a new chapter in Ghana's development. Her vision includes practical partnerships focusing on job creation, industrial strengthening, agricultural and healthcare improvements, and a more innovative and competitive economy. Dr Agyeman-Rawlings identified climate change, environmental degradation, illegal mining, waste management, pollution, and sustainable resource use as major challenges requiring innovative and coordinated solutions.

She stressed that environmental protection should be a responsibility for present and future generations, not just an economic resource. Dr Agyeman-Rawlings pledged to engage scientists, researchers, innovators, environmentalists, businesses, institutions, and communities in developing practical responses to Ghana's environmental and developmental challenges.

Her tenure's success will be measured by the extent to which Ghana's scientific and technological potential is converted into tangible improvements in citizens' lives. Dr Agyeman-Rawlings vowed to serve with integrity, humility, and purpose, emphasizing that public office should be judged by the positive impact created for the people.
