Worker dies after being trapped in gold crusher in Migori

A 21-year-old man, Alfred Kausi, lost his life after being trapped in a gold ore crushing machine at Ntunyigi in Kuria West, Migori County. On Monday, August 31, 2026, around noon, Kausi was working with the crusher when his clothes were caught in one of the machine's moving parts, causing him to become trapped inside. He sustained severe injuries to both of his legs and his rib cage.

Kausi was rushed to Ombo Mission Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body was then transported to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation until a postmortem examination could be conducted. Police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal workplace accident. Gold mining is a common occupation in the area, attracting many locals, but there have been an increasing number of fatal accidents prompting calls for improved safety measures.
