WATCH: Pitso Mosimane speaks for the first time as Bafana Bafana coach

Pitso Mosimane, the most decorated South African football coach, was officially appointed as the new head coach of Bafana Bafana on Tuesday at a press conference. Speaking for the first time since his appointment, Mosimane expressed his pride, determination, and humility in taking on the challenge once again. He emphasized that this moment is bigger than any individual match, club, or even a single coach.

Mosimane, a former Sundowns coach, took over from Hugo Broos, who resigned on July 31, 2022. The appointment was delayed by 31 days due to salary negotiations and disagreements over Mosimane's preferred technical team members. SAFA initially offered him a R5 million per annum package, but eventually doubled their offer after a standoff.

Mosimane acknowledged the immense responsibility and expectations that come with leading the national team, stating that this role means more than just a coaching job. He understands the weight of representing not only the club but also his country. With Bafana scheduled to start their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in just 25 days, Mosimane will face the challenge of assembling a competitive squad and navigating potential interference from football agents.
