Vorfall in Kraftwerksnähe: Raketen und Feuerball: Sabotage an Stromnetz in Brandenburg

Two sabotage incidents occurred near the Jänschwalde coal-fired power plant in southwestern Brandenburg, but without affecting the electricity supply. Brandenburg's Interior Minister Jan Redmann (CDU) confirmed that in two cases, conductive material was successfully placed into the high-voltage line, while in other instances it did not succeed.

No one was harmed. Law enforcement continues to investigate the area near the border with Saxony. Multiple devices were found at the scene, and Redmann described the situation as very serious, as the method of commissioning could have caused greater damage. The motive of the perpetrators is unclear at this time, though past incidents in the region have been linked to the left-extreme spectrum.

Foreign involvement cannot be ruled out. The target was to cause a short circuit, which was achieved in two instances. A fireball was observed, likely due to a short circuit in a high-voltage line that then discharged into the ground. The electricity outage was not confirmed, with sunshine and wind aiding the situation. Police cordoned off the power station, surrounded by transmission towers, located in a forested area.

Network operator 50Hertz reported no power outage, attributing it to homemade rockets resembling commercial fireworks used for the occasion. The Interior Minister confirmed it was an attack attempt and condemned the act, emphasizing the need to protect infrastructure. Brandenburg's Minister-President, Dietmar Woidke, called it an "attack attempt" and expressed concern over the frequency of such incidents.

The event will be discussed at the next Interior Minister conference, following several attacks in the Greater Berlin area in recent times.
