Verbraucherpreise: Ifo: Inflation steigt 2027 auf 3 Prozent - wenig Entspannung

Munich – The Ifo Institute expects a temporary reduction in price pressure in Germany, but anticipates no lasting relaxation in inflation. According to the Münchner Wirtschaftsforschungsinstitut, firms plan to increase prices slightly, particularly in industry and trade. The Ifo price expectations fell to 21.2 points, down from 21.6 in July.

"This suggests a slightly weakening price pressure over the next three months," reported the Ifo. Overall, inflation is expected to remain high in the coming months. This year, the inflation rate is projected at 2.8 percent, rising to 3.0 percent in 2027. The rise in crude oil prices and especially market prices for natural gas and electricity since early August has contributed to this.

"The longer the war in the Middle East continues and energy prices stay high, the stronger medium-term consumer price increases for food, services and goods are likely to be, as companies pass on the increased costs with a delay," says Ifo researcher Tiphaine Wibault. Rising heating and fuel prices drove the inflation rate in Germany to 2.9 percent in August, the Federal Statistical Office reported on Monday. Consumer prices had last surged sharply at the end of 2023.
