Uttar Pradesh: Lucknow Gets New Vehicle Detention Yard At Ahimamau; Facility To Store 237 Seized Vehicles

Lucknow, September 1: The longstanding issue of storing seized vehicles in the capital is set to be resolved with the completion of a new detention/dumping yard at Ahimamau, developed by the Transport Department. The facility, costing approximately Rs 2.55 crore, will be able to hold 136 light vehicles, 15 heavy vehicles, and 86 two-wheelers simultaneously, making a total capacity of 237 vehicles.

According to the Additional Transport Commissioner (Enforcement) KD Singh Gaur, this new facility is a significant step towards the Yogi government's vision for improved road safety. Currently, limited space at police stations and open areas often forces enforcement teams to park seized vehicles at police stations or available open areas after taking action, leading to congestion and traffic issues.

The Municipal Corporation of Lucknow temporarily allocated 0.780 hectares of land in village Ahimamau for the purpose of parking detained vehicles. Subsequently, the Uttar Pradesh State Special Security Corps sanctioned over Rs 2.55 crore for the construction of the main building, guard room, and boundary wall.

Following a technical inspection by a committee comprising engineers from the Public Works Department, Rural Engineering Department, Irrigation Department, and others, the handover process to the Transport Department is underway. The committee will inspect the yard before the handover.

With the completion of the new yard, vehicles seized or detained by the Transport Department's enforcement teams will be able to be systematically accommodated, reducing the current issue of vehicles being scattered across various locations. This will also help in reducing pressure on police stations, limit the accumulation of vehicles in open spaces, and contribute to improved traffic conditions in the city.
