US-Iran conflict flares again as Tehran launches missiles and drones after fresh US strikes

Explosions were also reported in southern Jordan, and Iran claimed it was retaliating against the US strikes. The escalation was triggered by Iran's response to new US strikes targeting its forces, particularly the IRGC. The Strait of Hormuz is strategically vital, as it facilitates approximately 20% of the world's oil transport, making it a focal point of military tension.

In response to attacks on commercial vessels, the US launched strikes on Iranian targets associated with the IRGC, aiming to counter perceived threats to shipping and American personnel in the region. President Donald Trump defended the US military action and threatened a harsher response if Iran retaliated against the "failed Nation of Iran." US Central Command reported that the strikes were "limited" and "precise," targeting IRGC forces involved in minelaying preparations near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran claimed one US strike hit a wedding venue, killing four people, including a child.

Iranian state media reported US strikes on a fishmeal factory, a fishing pier, and a Ports and Maritime Organization tower, as well as a projectile hitting an area near Jiroft Airport. Iranian officials warned of "crushing and devastating blows" against the United States, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz to global oil supplies.
