Ukraine at UN urges non-recognition of illegitimate Russian elections in occupied Ukraine

On Tuesday, Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa urged all UN member states and international organizations to refrain from recognizing the fraudulent and fictitious elections held in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. Speaking at the UN General Assembly meeting on the situation in Ukraine, Betsa emphasized that these elections are illegal and illegitimate, and any mandates obtained through such voting should not be acknowledged.

She also called upon states and international organizations not to send observers or representatives to these unlawful electoral processes, nor to engage in any activity that could be perceived as legitimizing the voting.

Betsa stressed the importance of continuing to bolster Ukraine’s military strength and air defense systems. Furthermore, she highlighted the necessity of imposing stricter sanctions on Russia and coordinating efforts to weaken Russia’s capacity to perpetuate and expand its war efforts. This stance is aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the region.
