UAE sends food and power generators to Nepal to boost response to deadly floods

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has extended its humanitarian aid to Nepal following devastating floods that have claimed over 1,000 lives and left more than 4,000 people missing. The aid package, valued at $10 million, includes food, relief materials, and power generators, transported by an Emirati plane to the Himalayan nation.

The severe floods and landslides, triggered by a glacier collapse, have caused extensive destruction along the border between Nepal and Tibet, China. This is the second aid flight organized by the Emirates, following a previous shipment of 85 tonnes of supplies on Sunday. The death toll across Nepal and Tibet has surpassed 1,000, with 987 lives lost in Nepal and more recorded in Tibet.

Over 11,814 people have been rescued, primarily using helicopters to reach those stranded in areas where infrastructure has been severely damaged. Rescue teams are focusing on 11 hydropower projects, including in the affected districts of Rasuwa and Nuwakot. Nepali Prime Minister Balendra Shah described the flood as "an unprecedented and devastating natural disaster," highlighting the challenges in assessing the full extent of the damage.

The UAE Aid Agency, directed by President Sheikh Mohamed, will continue to play a leading role in supporting disaster response efforts worldwide. Dr. Tareq Al Amiri, chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, stated that a team is collaborating with local authorities and international organizations to ensure that assistance reaches those affected.
