Two years later: Police honor three officers murdered on their way to duty

On Monday, a 21-year-old woman named Nandani Yadav was brutally murdered in Dabra town, Gwalior district, by her father Bhagwan Singh Yadav and uncle Santosh Singh Yadav. The motive for the killing was her decision to work outside the state, her short hair, and her relationship with a male colleague whom she referred to as her 'rakhi brother'.

Nandani, who managed a mall in Vijaypura city in Karnataka, had returned home for the 'raksha bandhan' festival with her 'rakhi brother' Mahendra Pandey, who worked alongside her at the same mall. Upon her return, tensions rose within the Yadav household, as neither her father nor uncle approved of her choices. On Monday, the two accused began to scold Nandani for her decisions, first assaulting her 17-year-old sister before turning their attention to Nandani and Pandey.

After the murder, Bhagwan and Santosh fled the scene, prompting neighbors to alert the police and release the woman's mother and sister from a locked room. The uncle of the victim is currently on the run, while Bhagwan has been arrested. The police are investigating the incident and attempting to locate the uncle, as well as interviewing Pandey to obtain his statement.
