Tucson, Arizona, police investigate gay bar shooting as a possible hate crime; 3 dead

A shooting at a gay bar in Tucson, Arizona, left three people dead, including the suspected shooter, and is being investigated as a possible hate crime, according to local police. Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33, were both killed in the parking lot of Venture-N shortly before midnight Monday. The shooter, Ousman Ceesay, 44, died at a local hospital.

Police believe Ceesay confronted the victims before shooting them. A note found on Ceesay listed several LGBTQIA+-associated businesses. Police have increased security around other gay-friendly businesses in the area, but there is no known active threat to the community at this time. Chief of Police Monica Prieto emphasized that bias-based crimes have no place in the community and that investigators are examining the evidence and pursuing all leads.

Flowers, candles, and photos have been left at a growing memorial to the victims outside the bar, and a candlelight vigil is planned for the following night. Community groups have expressed solidarity with the victims and the LGBTQIA+ community.
