An insider revealed that Trump's staunch stance is deeply personal, stating that he cannot be swayed. The administration has been facilitating Big Tech's push for data centers to establish a rival AI infrastructure to China, frequently citing China's opposition.

Elon Musk's X platform alleged that a bot network, consisting of 200,000 accounts, was spreading anti-data center sentiment, which may have stemmed from genuine news reports about energy concerns. The federal government has been aiding these projects by expediting federal permitting, lobbying for expedited electricity grid connections, and approving new chemicals for data center manufacturing.

In response to community opposition, the government has pledged to offset energy costs for local communities. However, Big Tech's data centers have faced legal challenges, with lawsuits accusing companies like SpacexAI and Microsoft of violating pollution-permitting laws. The EPA has also been considering scrapping a federal rule requiring public notice and comment during air permit applications, potentially legitimizing legal violations.
