East River Source Control has welcomed Martin von Zweigbergk, the creator of Jujutsu version control system, as its new chief technology officer. Von Zweigbergk launched Jujutsu as a side project in late 2019 and later made it his full-time work at Google, where it garnered over 30,000 stars on GitHub and released under the Apache 2.0 license. Prior to Jujutsu, he worked on the Fig Mercurial client and contributed to Git, a tool used by 96% of professional developers.

Benjamin Brittain, co-founder and CEO of East River Source Control, expressed confidence in von Zweigbergk's leadership, stating that the company will benefit from a "wholly different level of technical capability." ERSC is developing tools to manage the growing needs of source code management and collaboration, driven by AI's impact on the software industry. Their Storage service will begin private beta later this month.

Von Zweigbergk will continue to maintain Jujutsu as an open source project under the Apache 2.0 license. He believes the storage layer needs to evolve to accommodate the demands of products at scale, and ERSC is better positioned to support that change than an open source project. ERSC, founded in 2025 and backed by Amplify Partners, aims to create the next generation of version control platforms for humans and machines.
