The creator of Jujutsu has joined ERSC

East River Source Control has named Martin von Zweigbergk, the creator of the Jujutsu version control system, as their new chief technology officer. This appointment is strategic as he leads the company's next generation version control platforms. Von Zweigbergk started Jujutsu as a side project in 2019, eventually making it his full-time work at Google.

The project has gained significant traction with over 30,000 stars on GitHub and operates under the Apache 2.0 license. Prior to Jujutsu, he worked on Fig, a Mercurial client that provided Google engineers with a distributed workflow on top of Piper, the monorepo that held most of the company's code. He has also made notable contributions to Git, a tool used by 96% of professional developers as per the 2022 Stack Overflow developer survey.

His expertise in tackling complex engineering problems over a decade spans many areas. ERSC believes that von Zweigbergk's leadership will bring a new level of technical capability to their organization. The company is currently developing tools to manage source code and collaboration tools, especially in the rapidly evolving AI-driven software industry.

ERSC Storage will be launching its private beta later in the month. Von Zweigbergk will continue to maintain Jujutsu as an open source project under the Apache 2.0 license. He envisions that the storage layer of version control needs to change to better support the growing demands of products at scale.
