Starlink spearheads satellite internet boom but other players are set to launch

Starlink, the satellite internet service provided by SpaceX founder Elon Musk, has now entered the United Arab Emirates (UAE) market, offering an alternative to fiber internet services from du or e&. Although Starlink is currently at capacity in the UAE, other satellite internet providers are set to launch in the region, with Amazon's Leo service and Blue Origin's TeraWave network expected to make services available to consumers in the latter half of 2027 or early 2027.

Market research firms predict that the global satellite internet market could grow from $13.3 billion in 2023 to $35.7 billion by 2033, driven by increasing investment in low Earth orbit satellites. Although Starlink faces challenges such as high initial deployment costs and signal delays, the company is launching satellites regularly and plans to deploy larger, more capable satellites to increase capacity.

Experts suggest that satellite internet services could account for up to 15% of the overall internet market within 15 years, with potential customers including individual consumers, airlines, ship operators, airlines and ship operators. In countries like the UK, Germany, and France, Starlink offers affordable monthly plans ranging from £40 to €35, while in Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Yemen, Jordan, and Israel, the company provides services for over 160 countries.
