Seoul announces 44-member emergency relief team to Nepal for flood search-and-rescue

South Korea's foreign ministry announced today that the nation will dispatch a 44-person emergency relief team to Nepal as part of a response to the country's request for assistance with search-and-rescue operations. The deployment follows the recent flooding in Nepal's Rasuwa region, for which Nepal had sought help. The South Korean team, comprising officials from the foreign ministry and fire agency, is scheduled to depart for Nepal on a military transport aircraft on Tuesday.

The team will remain in Nepal for approximately ten days to assist in the ongoing search and rescue efforts.

South Korea had previously sent a rapid response team to Nepal after the devastating floods last week, which targeted the search for nine South Korean workers missing at a hydropower project. The initial attempts to reach the disaster zone were hindered by flight restrictions imposed by the Nepalese military. Post receiving clearance, the rapid response team initiated aerial search missions over the suspected site starting on August 29, according to South Korean media.
