Sonos unveils ‘Sonos 27’ software with four new features

Sonos has introduced its new software platform, 'Sonos 27', alongside launching two new products: the Sonos Ace Ultra headphones and the Sonos Beam Ultra soundbar. The rebranded software includes four new features arriving this fall.

Firstly, users can transform two compatible portable speakers into wireless rear surrounds for an immersive movie night experience, then seamlessly revert them to their original positions without any wires or permanent setup.

Secondly, headphone linking in Early Access allows seamless audio switching between Sonos Ace Ultra headphones and a compatible Sonos speaker or group, all over the same WiFi connection with just a button press. Additionally, users can control music directly on their headphones via the Sonos app while on their home network.

Thirdly, Sonos 27Voice is a new voice-activated feature specifically designed for music requests at home, enabling users to ask for songs in a conversational manner. For instance, users can say "Play that song I had on in the kitchen last night" or "Put on something downstairs that the kids will like". The system then figures out the rest.

Lastly, Sonos MCP (Multi-Channel Perception) extends the platform's reach to frontier large language models (LLMs), enabling control of the Sonos system through familiar chatbot interfaces. This feature allows for advanced dialog and reasoning in combination with out-loud listening on speakers.
