Search for fisherman off Pulau Tenggol ends with no clues found

DUNGUN, Sept 1 — The search and rescue operation for fisherman Sabrie Rusli, 32, who vanished after his boat capsized in waters off Pulau Tenggol on Thursday, was terminated yesterday without finding any clues or evidence. Kemaman Maritime Zone Director Abdul Halim Hamzah announced that the search, spanning nearly 801.22 square nautical miles, was conducted meticulously, considering weather, sea conditions, currents, and the possibility of the missing man drifting.

Throughout the mission, diverse search techniques were employed, including surface searches, sonar usage, diving, and a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to aid in locating any potential clues or objects linked to the victim. Despite these efforts, no relevant findings were discovered by the time the operation was halted, according to a statement released yesterday.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) commended all involved parties, including agencies, rescue teams, and the maritime community, for their contributions. However, they emphasized that MMEA assets will continue to monitor the area for any new information concerning the missing fisherman, as the SAR operation has been officially called off.
