S. Korea, Japan hold economic security dialogue to discuss nurturing advanced tech

Korea and Japan convened an economic security dialogue in Tokyo on Tuesday to exchange policy insights and deliberate on pressing matters, including the advancement of cutting-edge technologies, according to the presidential office. The fifth installment of this dialogue featured Kim Sung-yeol, Seoul's presidential secretary for economic security, and Takeshi Soda, a high-ranking official from Japan's National Security Secretariat.

Both parties assessed their respective economic security landscapes and exchanged pertinent policies to strengthen mutual comprehension, as reported by Cheong Wa Dae. Furthermore, they deliberated on recent economic security concerns, encompassing the cultivation and safeguarding of sophisticated technologies like artificial intelligence and semiconductors, along with the stabilization of energy and critical mineral supply chains.

Cooperation measures in these domains were also discussed during the dialogue, which was initiated following a prior agreement between the leaders of Korea and Japan to intensify communication and collaboration in economic security matters.
