S. Korea, Japan hold economic security dialogue to discuss nurturing advanced tech

Seoul and Tokyo convened a bilateral economic security dialogue on September 1 to exchange policies and address current challenges, including the advancement of technology, according to South Korea's presidential office. The fifth South Korea-Japan economic security dialogue featured Kim Sung-yeol, Seoul's secretary for economic security, and Takeshi Soda, a senior official from Japan's National Security Secretariat.

Both parties examined their respective economic security frameworks and shared pertinent policies to foster mutual comprehension, as reported by Cheong Wa Dae. They also deliberated on recent economic security concerns, such as the creation and safeguarding of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and semiconductors, as well as the stabilization of energy and critical mineral supply chains.

Cooperation measures in these areas were also discussed, as per the presidential office. The dialogue was organized following a prior arrangement between the leaders of South Korea and Japan to intensify communication and collaboration in economic security. The two nations are scheduled to convene the subsequent session in 2027.
