Ruto appoints Duncan Oburu Ojwang as IPOA chair, Sossion and Lentoijoni as TSC commissioners

President William Ruto has selected Duncan Ojwang to serve as the Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) for a six-year period. This appointment, as announced in a special Gazette notice, places Ojwang in charge of the police oversight body, which is tasked with providing civilian oversight over the National Police Service.

The IPOA is responsible for investigating complaints against police officers, monitoring policing operations, inspecting police premises, and making recommendations to improve policing practices and strengthen accountability within the service. Ojwang's appointment comes at a time when concerns about police conduct and the need for greater accountability within the security sector remain prominent in Kenya.

As the new IPOA chairperson, Ojwang will be expected to lead the authority in fulfilling its oversight mandate, ensuring that complaints of police misconduct are independently investigated. This appointment follows the departure of the previous Chairperson, Issack Hassan, who joined the Court of Appeal.
