Russian jet-powered drone rips into 16-story Kyiv apartment building – photo

Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported a Russian drone strike on September 1 during an intense overnight air assault in Kyiv's Podilskyi district. A high-rise apartment building, standing 16 stories tall, was targeted. Klitschko confirmed that the attack resulted in three people being injured. The Ukrainian State Emergency Service informed that eight individuals were killed and another eight wounded in the strike, with a Shahed drone engine found at the scene, indicating a direct hit.

The assault on Kyiv and surrounding areas claimed 12 lives, including an Indian national, and left eight injured. Kyiv faced 11 separate air raid warnings on August 31 as Russian forces continued their relentless drone attacks, which intensified on August 27. These strikes have now become a daily occurrence for five consecutive days.

Russian forces also launched a targeted ballistic missile strike on a railway depot and other infrastructure belonging to Ukrainian Railways, killing six company employees and causing extensive damage. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian forces fired both ballistic and cruise missiles alongside nearly 200 attack drones.

Ukrainian air defense forces intercepted ten ballistic and cruise missiles, two UAVs, and 187 drones. The assault impacted 28 locations nationwide, causing four deaths and 13 injuries outside Kyiv. The city of Boryspil suffered the most damage, with a five-story apartment building, a store, private homes, a vehicle, and a car service station severely impacted.

In the Obukhiv district, one person was injured, and 11 homes, warehouses, and a gas station sustained damage.
