Read John Ternus' First Memo to Apple Employees as CEO

John Ternus officially assumed the role of Apple's CEO today, with Tim Cook assuming the position of Executive Chair. In his inaugural memo to employees, Ternus expressed gratitude to Cook for his guidance during the transition and for his contributions to Apple throughout his tenure. He emphasized his excitement for the company's future and highlighted the upcoming launch next week, which he anticipates will be exceptional.

Ternus praised the exceptional work of the team and expressed his enthusiasm for the groundbreaking products already in development and those yet to be conceived. He affirmed that he is eager to collaborate with the team in shaping the future of Apple. Ternus, an Apple veteran since 2001, previously held the position of senior vice president for Hardware Engineering.

In contrast, Cook brings an operations background to the role of Executive Chair. After Cook's departure, Apple's leadership underwent a reorganization, with Johny Srouji assuming the role of chief hardware officer, taking over the Hardware Engineering team previously led by Ternus. Laura Legros, a former engineering vice president and Ternus's assistant, is returning to Apple, while the product design team has undergone restructuring.

Cook conveyed immense satisfaction in handing over Apple's leadership to Ternus, acknowledging Ternus's brilliance, talent, and capability. Ternus will make his first appearance as Apple CEO at the upcoming September 9 "Surprise and Shine" iPhone event.
