Pune SIR Draft Roll: 28.66 Lakh Voters Missing As Electorate Falls 31.6%; Claims & Objections Open Till September 30

On August 31, Pune district published its draft electoral roll under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, revealing a drastic 31.6% reduction in the registered electorate compared to the previous roll. The final electorate has shrunk from 90,80,173 to 62,13,692 across 21 Assembly constituencies. The District Election Office reported that 28,66,481 names were missing from the draft roll, constituting nearly one-third of the earlier voter base.

The reduction is primarily attributed to untraceable or absent voters, accounting for 17,83,058 names, followed by 5,91,038 voters who had permanently shifted, 3,12,048 deceased voters, and 1,43,975 cases involving voters already enrolled or duplicate entries. Other categories include 36,362 cases that require further examination.

Significant drops were observed in major urban constituencies such as Hadapsar (-2.98 lakh voters), Chinchwad (-1.69 lakh voters), Khadakwasala (-1.77 lakh voters), Bhosari (-0.74 lakh voters), Kothrud (-1.03 lakh voters), Vadgaon Sheri (-0.49 lakh voters), Shivajinagar (-0.29 lakh voters), Purandar (-0.87 lakh voters), and Shirur (-0.71 lakh voters).

Deputy District Election Officer Minal Kalaskar informed that hearings will be held for voters with discrepancies or unmapped details, and decisions on their inclusion in the final roll will be taken after these hearings. Citizens are advised to verify their names and details using Form 6 for inclusion, Form 8 for corrections, and Form 7 for objections. The official deadline for claims and objections is September 30, with the final roll set for publication on November 4.
