Police disclose identity of Chinese man suspected of murdering his student

GYEONGSAN, South Korea, Sept. 1 (Yonhap) -- Authorities have identified the Chinese national suspected of murdering his student in Gyeongsan city, located 290 kilometers southeast of Seoul. Zheng Changsheng, 31, was formally arrested on Thursday following the alleged killing of the 25-year-old female student at his residence on August 20.

The victim's body was mutilated, and her remains were scattered in various locations across Gunpo and Gyeongju cities near Seoul. The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency has published Zheng's photograph, age, and other identifying details on their website, which will remain available until October 1. Police intend to forward the case to the prosecution by Friday.

In addition to the murder charge, Zheng is also accused of submitting a false missing report, dressing as a woman at a train station to evade police, and cutting off the victim's mobile phone service near the station, all actions purportedly aimed at impeding the investigation.
