PDP chieftain Daniel Orbih dies

Daniel Orbih, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and a close political ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has passed away. The news of his demise was conveyed on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, through a statement issued by his family. His death was confirmed by Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka.

Orbih's family released a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, mourning the loss of their beloved brother, husband, father, and uncle. Chief Daniel Osi Orbih had passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026. He is survived by his wife, Florence Orbih, and his children, Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Mildred Omonemi Orbih. The statement also mentioned his brothers and sisters, as well as other extended family members.

The family expressed their sorrow, asking friends, relatives, and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers during this difficult time. Further details regarding the burial arrangements will be announced later. The statement concluded with a wish that Orbih's soul may find perfect peace.

Daniel Orbih was a significant figure in Nigerian politics, known for his association with the political camp of Wike, who served as the Governor of Rivers State and is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. In 2024, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, appointed Orbih, who was also the South-South Zonal Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, as the Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma.

The appointment was announced in a statement by the then Secretary to the Edo State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.
