Over 7,200 corruption cases probed by CBI pending trials, 409 for more than 2 decades

As of December 31, 2025, according to a report by the Central Vigilance Commission, over 7,200 corruption cases are currently pending trials in various courts across India. This includes 409 cases that have been pending for more than two decades. Out of the total 7,229 cases, 1,612 are pending for less than three years, 860 for up to five years, and 1,901 for over five years but less than ten years.

Notably, 2,447 cases registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act have been pending for over ten years and up to twenty years, with 409 cases exceeding twenty years. There were also 473 cases pending for investigation with the CBI, 39 of which have been stuck for over five years. The report cites delays in obtaining responses to Letters Rogatory and time-consuming verification of documents as reasons for the lengthy proceedings. In 2025, the CBI registered 1,005 regular cases and laid 265 traps for bribery detection.
