Olowo Seeks Still Earth Group’s Support for Igogo Festival

His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, the Olowo of Owo Kingdom, approached Ms Oyindamola Lami Adeyemi, Executive Chairman of Still Earth Group, with a request for support in hosting and promoting the annual Igogo festival. The monarch made the request during a meeting at Ms Adeyemi's residence in Lagos, as preparations for the centuries-old festival were in full swing. The monarch was accompanied by his father, Chief Taiwo Kabir Adeyemi, during the visit to Ms Adeyemi's Banana Island home.

The visit aimed to foster a collaborative relationship between the Owo Palace and influential figures, with a focus on preserving the cultural significance of the Igogo festival while expanding its appeal and visibility. Ms Adeyemi, a native of Owo, is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting the festival, which continues to be a significant cultural event in Owo Kingdom and Ondo State.

The Olowo recounted the history of the Igogo festival, highlighting its core values such as fidelity, forgiveness, and the rejection of betrayal. He noted that one of the festival's distinctive customs is the suspension of traditional drumming, with the gong taking center stage. This unique practice led to the festival's name, 'Igogo.'

Ms Adeyemi, expressing her pride in her Owo heritage, thanked the monarch for recognizing her as a worthy partner in the festival's preservation and promotion. She vowed to extend her support to the Still Earth Group for the next three years, pledging to enhance the organization and profile of the festival while respecting its traditions and customs. The Igogo Festival remains a cherished cultural celebration in Owo Kingdom, attracting both locals and visitors to the ancient town each year.
