Official | Schalke 04 bring Hee-chan Hwang back to the Bundesliga

Schalke 04 have officially signed South Korean international striker Hee-chan Hwang from Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan until the end of the 2026/27 season. The 30-year-old attacker will also have a purchase option worth around €3 million. Hwang joins a newly-promoted Bundesliga side as another experienced but affordable addition to a squad that had already benefited from targeted Bundesliga experience in recent years.

This will not be Hwang's first stint in Germany, as he previously played for Hamburg in the 2. Bundesliga from 2018 to 2019. However, his time at Leipzig proved less successful due to a COVID-19 infection and struggled to find a regular place in the team. His move to Schalke provides another opportunity for Hwang to establish himself properly in the Bundesliga.

Schalke director of professional football Youri Mulder expressed his delight in securing Hwang, noting his versatility and extensive experience in different leagues. Hwang himself confirmed that he fits well into Schalke's style of play and is excited about playing in a sold-out arena as a Schalke player.
