NACADA arrests 11, seizes counterfeit alcohol in Nairobi crackdown

Nairobi, Kenya - The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) joined forces with multiple agencies in a relentless battle against illegal alcohol, today storming an outlet in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Embakasi South. The operation yielded 240 counterfeit alcoholic beverages, bearing fraudulent KRA stamps.

The effort involved NACADA, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA), and the National Police Service. One suspect was apprehended and will be taken to Jogoo Road Police Station to face arraignment. This bust follows similar raids in Eastleigh, Jericho, and South B, where large quantities of counterfeit alcohol and narcotics were confiscated.

The consistent victories highlight the potency of NACADA's intelligence-driven enforcement strategy, which has repeatedly dealt setbacks to counterfeiters and drug dealers. NACADA's CEO, Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, emphasized the organization's commitment to shielding Kenyans from the hazards of counterfeit and illicit alcohol, pledging a continuous crackdown.

He appealed to the public to collaborate by providing information, which has been instrumental in the recent successful seizures. The seized items, with their fake excise stamps, posed grave health threats, including poisoning, organ failure, and fatality. Dr. Omerikwa urged Kenyans to stay alert and report any dubious outlets or activities through NACADA's social media or the free helpline 1192, assuring that all information is kept confidential and acted upon swiftly.

The arrested individual from Mukuru Kwa Njenga will face the full extent of the law. NACADA has stressed that the campaign against counterfeit alcohol and narcotics is an ongoing operation, with further actions planned in high-risk regions across the nation.
