NACADA intensifies counterfeit alcohol crackdown with Mukuru raid

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) launched a multi-agency raid in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Embakasi South, on Monday, targeting illicit alcohol outlets. Authorities seized 240 counterfeit alcoholic beverages with forged KRA stamps, and arrested one suspect who was taken to Jogoo Road Police Station for arraignment.

The operation, conducted alongside Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA), and National Police Service, followed recent successful seizures in Eastleigh, Jericho, and South B. This series of arrests highlights NACADA's intelligence-driven enforcement strategy, which has significantly impacted counterfeiters and drug traffickers.

NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa emphasized the Authority's commitment to safeguarding Kenyans from the dangers of counterfeit and illicit alcohol, urging the public to collaborate in reporting suspicious activities. The seized products, bearing fake excise stamps, posed severe health risks such as poisoning, organ failure, and death.

Authorities encourage citizens to provide information through official social media channels or the free helpline 1192. The suspect from Mukuru Kwa Njenga will face legal proceedings, as NACADA plans additional operations in high-risk areas to combat the illegal trade of counterfeit alcohol and narcotics, ensuring a sustained campaign to protect public health and safety.
