Meteorological Fall begins in Saudi Arabia as temperatures gradually drop

The National Center for Wildlife (NCW) in Saudi Arabia announced the commencement of the 2026-2027 hunting season on September 1st, which will continue until January 31st, 2027. This sixth hunting season, introduced in 2021, aims to promote sustainable hunting, conserve biodiversity, and maintain ecological balance. The new season brings several regulatory changes, including the addition of 30 species for hunting, an 11% increase in the national hunting quota, and a 34% rise in the number of licenses.

The use of falcons for hunting now requires a valid falcon ownership certificate or passport, enhancing data reliability and compliance.

Hunting is restricted to legally permitted methods, specifically rifles that use compressed gas or spring mechanisms, and falconers registered with the Saudi Falcons Club. Hunting threatened terrestrial wildlife species and using unauthorized methods such as shotguns, nets, attractants, calls, and similar practices are prohibited. NCW coordinates with the Ministry of Interior to apprehend violators and refer them to competent authorities.

Dr. Mohammed Qurban, CEO of NCW, highlighted that the sixth season represents years of accumulated experience and institutional knowledge, enabling NCW to develop a scientific methodology for determining permitted species, quotas, and licenses. The updates for this season are informed by monitoring results, scientific studies, and previous season assessments, ensuring the sustainable use of species while maintaining the prohibition on hunting threatened species.

Qurban emphasized the importance of responsible, law-abiding hunters in sustaining wildlife and achieving a balance between hunting, natural resource renewal, and ecosystem sustainability.
