Recently, online media reported a video of a participant believed to be a transgender woman representing Malaysia in a transgender queen contest held in Bangkok, Thailand. Malaysian Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Minister Zulkifli Hasan strongly condemned the actions of an individual who participated in the transgender queen contest in Bangkok, Thailand, recently.

The Minister emphasized that such actions not only tarnished the country's image but also clearly contradicted Islamic teachings, local cultural norms, and Malaysian people's values. Organizing or participating in such events has never received any support, validation, or recognition from religious or government authorities in Malaysia.

The Minister urged emphasizing the act of imitating the opposite gender and promoting a transgender lifestyle is illegal according to Sharia law and prohibited under Shariah law in the states. Previously, a video circulating on social media showed a participant believed to be a transgender woman representing Malaysia in the aforementioned contest, leading to accusations that the event took place in Penang.

However, Mufti of Penang Mohd Sukki Othman clarified that the accusation was inaccurate, but the event indeed took place in Bangkok. According to him, the inspection revealed that the organizer had listed a participant representing Malaysia in the contest. Meanwhile, Zulkifli stated that religious authorities would cooperate with relevant agencies to investigate actions based on existing legislation.

The public is advised not to sensationalize or glorify acts that violate Sharia law, instead, unitedly uphold the moral values and beliefs of the ummah, he added.
