Melaka p-hailing riders to get motorcycle maintenance subsidy

Over 3,000 motorcycle delivery riders in Melaka will receive a maintenance subsidy to alleviate the financial strain they face. Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the allocation, which will be presented at the state executive council meeting this week, with further details to follow next week. The subsidy will be offered by a select group of motorcycle repair workshops chosen in each state constituency, enabling riders to access services at a reduced rate.

Those who have their motorcycles serviced will receive a discount of 20% to 30% on the total cost. This initiative aims to prioritize the welfare of p-hailing riders, who play a crucial role in society by facilitating daily activities through digital platforms. Rauf experienced firsthand the challenges and routines of riders by participating in a food delivery service to better understand their struggles.

The government is also considering expanding Perkeso contributions for p-hailing workers to further improve their protection. The digital economy has significantly transformed lifestyles, business methods, and employment patterns, making p-hailing a vital sector within the digital economy. This subsidy aligns with the Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) concept and the state's goal of becoming a digital state, which includes implementing an official address system in villages without formal addresses.
