Man cleared of plotting to kidnap princesses Amalia and Alexia

A man named Anne Romke van der H., aged 33, has been acquitted of plotting to abduct princesses Amalia and Alexia, the eldest daughters of the Dutch royal family. The court ruled that van der H. suffered from a psychotic episode at the time of the alleged crime and was not capable of forming the intent to carry out the kidnapping.

Throughout the investigation, van der H. had expressed romantic feelings for Amalia and fantasized about living in the wilds of Poland alongside her. He acquired survival gear, including knives, cooking equipment, and two hatchets, one with Alexia's name inscribed on it. Despite the prosecution's claim that van der H. intended to abduct or attack the princesses if they refused his demands, the court found insufficient evidence to support these claims.

A psychiatric evaluation determined that van der H. was schizophrenic and had developed an obsession with the royal family, particularly the two princesses. He was convicted of insulting six police officers and breaking a window, but the court deemed these offenses too minor to warrant compulsory treatment due to his psychotic state.

The court emphasized that his mental health condition did not justify imposing a fine or punishment, as the severity of his actions did not meet the necessary criteria for such measures.
