Maharashtra: ‘Ensure Justice For 246 Boat Owners Denied Special Financial Assistance,’ Says Assembly Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode

Mumbai, September 1, 2026 - Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode has called upon authorities to swiftly take positive measures to alleviate the plight of 246 boat owners from Raigad district who were unjustly denied special financial aid following Cyclone Kyarr and the Maha cyclone. A gathering was convened at the Deputy Speaker's office in Vidhan Bhavan, following a petition submitted by Daryavardi Matsyavyavasay Cooperative Society Ltd. in Ghodbunder, Wadaw of Raigad district.

During the meeting, the boat owners' representatives highlighted the recent transfer of fishing boat registration to the district office, which has caused significant delays in boat registration and licensing due to technical and administrative complications. They informed that several eligible fishermen were consequently denied the special financial assistance announced by the government.

The meeting was also made aware of the substantial financial losses suffered by non-mechanised boat owners engaged in marine fishing due to the impact of Cyclone Kyarr and the Maha cyclone.

Bansode emphasized that the issue should be addressed with empathy and resolve, and that all eligible fishermen denied assistance due to administrative mishaps should be granted justice. He instructed officials from the Fisheries Department to promptly draft and submit a proposal to the government, seeking approval for special financial aid for the affected 246 boat owners and other eligible fishermen, and to undertake necessary follow-up actions to secure its approval.
