‘Look up’ app for Googlebooks appears on Play Store, currently works on phones

Google has introduced a new "Look up" app for Googlebooks, which is currently available on the Play Store for Android phones. This app enables users to highlight concepts, words, or destinations they wish to investigate. Upon doing so, a floating window appears with a dictionary, flight tracker, "Overview," and translator. At the bottom of this window, there is a field where users can ask follow-up questions, leading to a conversational Gemini experience.

Google asserts that Look up will utilize publicly available information from relevant Google services like Search, Maps, and Flights to deliver the most suitable response in a user-friendly format. The app's desktop interface and package name, com.google.android.desktop.contextualtools, indicate its intended use with Googlebooks, although it can be installed on phones.
