LDV T60 range realigned with newly updated flagship Max Plus

LDV's billing of the Max Plus as it new flagship suggests the previous flagship versions of the T60 range, the Max Pro and Max Luxe, have both been dropped.

After reintroducing its South African operations recently, LDV presented an impressive update to the T60 utility vehicle range at the Kyalami Festival of Motoring. Part of the Max range, the new Max Plus trim level introduces a completely redesigned interior as part of a major facelift previously given to the T60 in Australia over two years ago. Marketed as the brand's new flagship, the Plus now replaces the Max Pro and Max Luxe models, which remain listed on LDV’s South Africa website.

The single T60 Max derivative maintains the same mechanicals as the regular T60 Pro, being powered by the 2.0-litre bi-turbodiesel engine producing 160kW/500Nm. Like before, the power is sent to the rear wheels or all four via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. A locking rear differential and low range transfer case are also retained.

No changes have been made to the rear suspension, ensuring the same 830 kg payload, 220 mm ground clearance, and 3 000 kg tow rating. Additionally, the vehicle's size remains consistent with its previous dimensions of 5 395 mm in length, 2 145 mm in width, and 1 819 mm in height, with an overall wheelbase of 3 155 mm.

Visually transformed with a new grille, front bumper, vents, and newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels, the most significant change is found inside the vehicle. The updated centre console features a floating setup with a new wireless smartphone charging pad above and storage below. Other modifications include a steering column-mounted gear selector, the removal of the traditional 10.25-inch infotainment system, and a freestanding 12.3-inch display.

The instrument cluster has also been upgraded to a new 12.3-inch unit, while touch-sensitive switches have replaced the climate control and four-wheel drive rotary dial. The price of the T60 Max Plus, set to be officially launched next month, is R699 900, offering a credit of R11 000 compared to the Max Pro and R91 000 less than the Max Luxe, which includes a five-year/200 000 km warranty and a five-year/100 000 km service plan.
